Introductory remarks
About Krzysztof Jakubczak
My name is Krzysztof Jakubczak. I am a CEO of Perspectiva Solutions Ltd. A Poland-based company I have set up to assist new ventures with production capacities.
I am a graduate from the Institute of Optoelectronics of the Military University of Technology in Warsaw (MSc) and Czech Technical University in Prague (PhD). I have built my professional skills in numerous other places. Some of them include Stanford University (USA), Laboratoire d’Optique Appliquée – LOA (France), Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology – KAIST (South Korea), Desy Synchrotron in Hamburg (Germany), Universidad de Salamanca (Spain), etc.
My areas of technical understanding are: medical devices, lasers, optics, infrared technology, light detection, secondary sources, lithography, vacuum systems, spectroscopic methods, and defense. I used to work as an R&D engineer and a manager in the optoelectronics and IT domains. I worked in publicly funded R&D institutions and in industry. I am involved in cooperation with LaserLab Europe, MIT Enterprise Forum Poland, Polish Standardization Committee, investors and technological innovators. In my former activities I was also responsible for evaluation of commercial potential of more than 3000 academic projects, helped to set up ~15 startups and to sell licenses from academic institutions. But most of all I am a passionate of new technologies. That is why I share my knowledge so that new companies could improve the world we all live in.
You can meet me on a number of events (mostly in Poland) where I give a short speeches on how to build a business based on innovative projects. Vast majority of them is free so you are always invited! I’m posting info on them on Facebook. Hopefully I meet you one day somewhere. In the meanwhile, though, you are more than welcome to get in touch me on social media.
Motivation to run this blog
First of all let me refer to statistics: worldwide statistics say that only about 5% of new projects end up with a successful commercial products. That’s really said. The reasons of such low success rates are numerous but it is possible to spot them. This blog in fact is to discuss some of the key points on drafting comprehensive strategy on how to make a business on a new project (meant innovative). I’m sharing my experience so that you all could avoid some bad steps.
My audience
This blog is for everybody who considers launching a project aimed at innovative products. It could be for R&D, corporate strategic departments of well established organizations but also for startups – companies backed by very young passionate people.
Disclosure
I’m writing this blog in my best intentions. I’m aware that my thoughts might influence your decisions but I cannot assure that at the end of the day you will be successful with your business. So please, do not complain if you fail! The motto is: it’s OK to fail! 🙂
The style
I’m not a native English speaker. Though, I decided to make this blog bilingual, English and Polish, so that it could reach people not only in my country but hopefully also in some other places of the World. I will do my best to use proper English in my blog but I will not have it edited by some third parties. I’d like to make the process of publishing smooth and prefer to focus on the content. So if you find some mistakes, misspells – well, I’m sorry, but I hope they would not be distractive enough to smear your focus on the key merit. Thank you for the understanding.
Secondly, I will use very informal language on this blog to be able to make a better contact with you. I hope you don’t mind.
Best regards!
Krzysztof
